The Reverend J. Peter Swarr...

Fr. Peter has been the Assistant Rector at St. John’s since June 30, 2006. He was ordained to the Deaconate in the Diocese of Maine June 25, 2006 and to the Priesthood February 24, 2007 at St. John’s, Plymouth. Before arriving at St. John’s Fr. Peter and his wife Angela lived in Alexandria, VA where Peter was a seminarian at the Virginia Theological Seminary (VTS).

Fr. Peter graduated summa cum laude from Wheaton College (Illinois) in 2002 with a B.A. in History and a minor in Bible-Theology. He matriculated to VTS in 2003 where he served as treasurer and president of the VTS Missionary Society. During his time at VTS Fr. Peter served as a seminarian at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Arlington, VA and as a seminarian at the Spanish-speaking mission church of Cristo Rey in Arlington, VA. Fr. Peter graduated cum laude from VTS in 2006, and was the recipient of the Charles and Janet Harris Award which is given to a graduating student in recognition of academic excellence, leadership ability and personal qualities of fitness for ordained ministry.

Fr. Peter hails from the great state of Maine where he was actively involved in Diocesan youth work and outreach efforts. He is a lover of the outdoors and enjoys hiking, swimming, canoeing and camping. Fr. Peter speaks Spanish and has a passion for Hispanic ministry and mission work in Spanish speaking countries, especially the Dominican Republic. Fr. Peter is died-in-the-wool Boston Red Sox fan though he has come to cheer for the Tigers so long as they aren’t playing the Red Sox.
