ALTERNATIVES FOR GIRLS
Since 1987, AFG has served girls and
young women in from the disadvantaged area of southwest Detroit with
vocational guidance, educational support, and counseling. St. John's
parishioners help by donating clothing and personal items.

CROP WALK
CROP WALKS,
sponsored
by Church World Service, take place annually
in the Fall. Walkers
from St. John's and several other area churches have the choice of
walking the short route (about 2 miles), or the full four-mile trek.
Walkers raise money to fight poverty and hunger around the world by
securing pledges from sponsors. For more information on Crop Walk or

CROSSROADS
SOUP KITCHEN
Four or five Sundays each
year, a team of parishioners prepare and serve lunch at the Crossroads
Soup Kitchen in Detroit. For more information, or to volunteer,

GLEANERS
COMMUNITY FOOD BANK
Several
times a year, a team of parishioners packs boxes of food and necessities
for underprivileged families at Gleaners Community Food Bank in Detroit.

RED CROSS
BLOOD DRIVE
Twice a year, St. John's
hosts a Red Cross Blood Drive. For more information, please contact

SALVATION
ARMY BELL RINGERS
During
the Christmas season, parishioners volunteer to ring bells for the
Salvation Army at local stores. The proceeds are used to provide
food and clothing for needy people in the area. For more

ST. PETER'S
HOME FOR BOYS
St. Peter's Home for
Boys, located in Detroit, is licensed to care for 27 boys, ages 12 to 18,
most of whom are wards of the court who have been removed from their
families because of abuse or neglect. The youth receive housing, meals,
clothes, individual and group counseling, and educational assistance. St.
John's parishioners help by donation clothing and personal items.

UNITED
THANK OFFERING
The
Mission of the United Thank Offering (UTO) is to expand the circle of thankful
people. To achieve this mission, they encourage daily prayers,
offerings, and awareness of the abundance of God's blessings. In
2002, UTO awarded close to $2.7 million in grants. For more
