Scott M. Elsholz ...

Scott Elsholz has been St. John’s Minister of Music since January 2007. He lives in Ann Arbor with his wife Melissa and dog Buxy.

Scott is currently a doctoral student in organ performance at Indiana University, where he also worked as an Associate Instructor, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Church Music, Improvisation, Piano, and Music Theory. He is also an adjunct lecturer at Eastern Michigan University, where he teaches applied organ lesson and conducts the Collegium Musicum early music ensemble.

He received his B.M. and M.A. degrees in organ performance from Eastern Michigan University, where he studied organ and improvisation with Dr. Pamela Ruiter-Feenstra. He served the music department as a university fellow and as a graduate assistant in music theory and was later named Visiting Professor of Organ during Pamela Ruiter-Feenstra’s sabbatical leave.

Scott has concertized extensively and has performed in numerous masterclasses and organ/improvisation seminars. He was named a quarterfinalist in the 2006 American Guild of Organists National Young Artists Competition in Organ Performance, one of the most prestigious organ competitions in the world. In 2001, he was selected as a participant in the Smarano Organ and Clavichord Symposium held in Smarano, Italy. He was also the winner of the Graduate Competition at Eastern Michigan University in 2001.

Above all, Scott is a devoted church musician, committed to enabling the people’s song in worship. He formerly served as Organist/Choirmaster at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Columbus, Indiana, and as Minister of Music for St. John Lutheran Church (ELCA) in Dundee, Michigan. Scott and Melissa feel blessed to be part of such a wonderful church family at St. John’s and they look forward to the years ahead singing a new song unto the Lord!
